It is situated approximately 380 km west of Nairobi, the capital city and 23 km south of Eldoret, the nearest large  town.  The college is 12 km south west of Eldoret International Airport.  It has 97.2 acres of land.  The college is a tertiary public institution under the Ministry of Education which offers a residential teachers training course for prospective teachers in Kenyan primary schools.  It offers a two-year P1 certificate programme for students from all over Kenya. Discussions are on going to elevate this course to the Diploma level in the near future.

MTC has a capacity of 1120 students. Its current enrollment is 967 students, 525 males and 442 females. There are 70 qualified lecturers and 64 Non-teaching staff.

The college is managed by the BOG. The current organization management structure comprises the BOG, the Principal, who is the Chief Executive and also the Secretary to the BOG, a Deputy Principal, two Deans and Heads of Departments.  The BOG is an agent of the Teachers Service Commission  (TSC). In Addition the BOG manages the teaching and non teaching staff and is responsible for the formulation of the college management policy in line with MOE policies. The Principal administers and coordinates the college programmes. The college therefore, has a management and administrative structure capable of responding to Strategic Plan challenges.

The MTC Strategic Plan seeks to domesticate the MOE Strategic Plan which articulates the government vision for the development of Kenya’s education system, and identifies the strategic imperatives necessary for the realization of the vision.  It also specifies the priorities upon which the resources in the sector will be focused.
